Duty of Care | UK & Europe | 2017
In February 2017, one of our Environmental Services teams from the London Borough of Bexley noticed that a property on their route had not presented any domestic waste for collection. Speaking to the resident – an elderly woman, living alone – the team became aware that something was wrong. She explained that she had been the victim of a crime and had no money for food or heating.
From their own pockets, the team provided money to meet her immediate needs as well as doing some emergency shopping for her. After their shift, the team arranged for Bexley Environmental Services to donate sufficient funds to cover her heating requirements through the winter until her next pension pay date.
The team continue to visit the resident every week to ensure all is well and do any emergency shopping that may be required.
