Developing and deploying the new Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton

The UK Government recently instigated employer-led design of apprenticeship courses, encouraging ‘trailblazer’ groups of employers to develop new national standards. Anne Thomas, Head of Serco Education, recognised an opportunity for Serco to lead the design of new Management qualifications, becoming co-chair of the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) trailerblazer group.

The CMDA Standard we helped to develop is proving popular across several sectors in the UK. To design the curriculum, Anne partnered with the CMI and University of Wolverhampton, and the first ever CMDA programme, run by Serco, was launched in May 2017.

Anne also led the marketing campaign, attracting over 150 apprentices into the first three cohorts, from whom feedback has been extremely positive. In addition, the Operational Manager Apprenticeship was launched in September and Anne is now preparing to launch a Senior Leaders Masters Apprenticeship in 2018.
