Our world 2017
Serco Italy provides technical support on complex engineering activities and services in the Earth Observation domain, and in particular on the Copernicus programme. Copernicus is the European Programme for the establishment of a European capacity for Earth Observation. Its services address six main thematic areas: atmosphere, marine, land, climate, emergency and security. Copernicus is the most ambitious Earth observation programme to date. It will provide accurate, timely and easily accessible information to improve the management of the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure civil security.
Within the Copernicus Programme, Serco has developed and operates the Sentinels Data Access System accessible by users worldwide on a 24/7 basis. The Sentinel Data Access System provides free and open access to Copernicus satellite data collected from a constellation currently composed of five satellites named Sentinels. These missions carry a range of technologies, such as radar and multi-spectral imaging instruments for land, ocean and atmospheric monitoring.
The Sentinel satellites offer a complete overview of our planet with constant observation and monitoring of geological and meteorological phenomena and their impact on our environment. From this perspective our team helps to capture, monitor, measure and provide vital data on how the Earth is affected by natural events and the underlying human contributions.
