Our world 2018
Serco’s Defence team in Australia has met and exceeded international standards to achieve recertification of its ISO accreditation in 2018.
Through its Fleet Marine Service Contract, Serco has a major presence at several Defence facilities around Australia. Working with the Royal Australian Navy, the teams at each facility monitor and manage a range of environmental incidents. Australia is renowned for its clean waterways and with a range of marine parks, including the Great Barrier Reef, adjacent to facilities, the impact of potential environment issues could be severe.
Last year, during the audit period, there were nine Environmental Incidents recorded which were managed with the Navy, including assistance to other vessels and managing and recovering spills as part of our role supporting the overall port management.
To achieve ISO 14001:2015 standards, we were able to display a systematic approach to environmental management and contribution to sustainable development.
Clint Thomas, Serco’s Managing Director, Defence in Asia Pacific said the recertification underlined the commitment of the team to environmental management.
“Our team operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week on and around vessels supporting the Royal Australian Navy,” Clint said. “Environmental management is an important part of that role which we take very seriously, and I am pleased the team has been recognised.”
