Business Lifecycle

To deliver our vision we need clarity, transparency and commercial rigour in all of our business processes to successfully compete for those contracts that add most value.  We have to transition and transform contracts effectively to deliver value and retain and grow our business by delivering continuous improvement.

Our business lifecycle is managed through a governance process which is applied to ensure continuity from the initial identification and nurturing of a sales opportunity through to the subsequent bid, Contract service delivery stages and operational close out.

Its application ensures consistent governance throughout the different stages of the lifecycle.  It provides the foundation upon which we deliver strong, competitive bids and assured service delivery; thereby securing the competitive edge we need to grow our business.  It enables us to identify and manage risk, maximise operating effectiveness and efficiency, retain commercial objectivity and deliver services that reflect our customers' business needs.

The Business Lifecycle process lays down the core steps ('Gates') that all Serco opportunities, bids, transitions, transformations and Contract operations must pass through in gaining approvals to proceed.  It forms the core basis for our commercial transactions and activities including Competitive Dialogue, Joint Ventures & Alliances and Mergers & Acquisitions.

Our commitment is embedded in our Business Development policy statement and Operations policy statement.  The principle period of the business lifecycle is that the operating period of our contracts.  These operate within the requirements set out in the Serco Management System and specifically the Operations Group Standard
