Health Safety and Environment
Our vision is zero harm. Our work is never so urgent or important that we cannot take time to do it safely and with respect for the environment.
Wherever we work we must make sure that we maintain a safe, healthy and sustainable working environment and promote a culture in which we all share this commitment.
We work in many different markets and provide a wide range of services which affect the lives of many people as well as the natural environment. Wherever we work, we aim to protect people, seek to reduce the amount of carbon produced and keep our use of global resources (such as energy and water) to a minimum, while reducing our waste through good waste management and recycling.
We have a health, safety and environmental strategy. To date this has focused on some core principles around leadership and governance, culture, competency, systems and performance and reporting. For each of these we have identified specific HSE priorities for the next three years through to 2018. Each division uses these as the framework for their own divisional strategies, a number of initiatives have been identified which the divisions will work on collaboratively. These support our commitment to continuous improvement, which should be reflected in improvements in our KPI's. Details of these are provided in our Corporate Responsibility report.
Responsibility for Health and Safety is owned by the plc Board. The plc Board Corporate Responsibility and Risk Committee reviews and approves the Health, Safety and Environment strategy and monitors health, safety and environmental risks and performance against agreed key performance indicators. The Group Chief Operating Officer sponsors and has responsibility for the management of Health, Safety and the Environment. This covers all aspects of our main health and safety risks such as aviation safety, transportation safety, custodial safety, physical assaults and other key areas of risk. The Executive Committee reviews health, safety and environmental risk and performance quarterly. The report the Committee receives consolidates divisional reports which are reviewed by the plc Board Corporate Responsibility and Risk Committee.
