Cleaning Service

We recognise the importance of hospital cleaning in keeping patients safe. Our cleaning and domestic service is designed to improve infection control and prevention via our innovative ‘Touchpoint’ cleaning and choice of highly effective cleaning systems.

Around the world, Serco delivers high-quality cleaning services to help care for patients:

  • In Hong Kong, we have been providing cleaning services to local public hospitals since 1996, including our current contract at the 1600-bed tertiary Prince of Wales Hospital.
  • Serco is a trusted partner of the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, providing services to more than 15 hospitals. We deliver efficient cleaning and facilities management services at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, one of the largest single-build hospital projects in England.
  • In the Middle East, we have partnered with some of the world’s leading health providers to provide facilities management services to hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Case study: Fiona Stanley Hospital

Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth is one of Australia’s most advanced public healthcare facilities. Patients within this 783-bed tertiary hospital receive outstanding care thanks to the best people, practices and technologies.

Fiona Stanley Hospital’s cleaning service is run by Serco, as part of its delivery of facilities management services at the hospital. The service provides a clean, hygienic environment to help with the prevention of hospital borne infections.

Serco employs more than 300 domestic assistants who clean clinical and non-clinical areas of the hospital, including all public areas, wards, theatres, the 140-bed rehabilitation centre, including the hydrotherapy pool area, the mental health unit, and the emergency department.

The cleaning team has a key role to play in ensuring that the hospital runs smoothly and patients receive the very best care in a timely manner. For example, the dedicated discharge cleaning team is integral to the hospital’s discharge and admission processes.

100% microfibre solution provides a clean and hygienic environment

The use of microfibre is considered to be world’s best practice. It is a tried and tested method used by Serco globally, including at the award winning Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Scotland. In public areas, e-water is used with the Tenant Ech2O machines; this means that we can safely dispose of water as grey water.

Anyone in the hospital can request an emergency, or reactive, clean at any time via the hospital’s helpdesk. When a new reactive job is raised, the system automatically locates the nearest cleaner and sends the job to their portable digital assistant advising them of the job and the required completion time.
