We are also the largest non-government operator of civilian air traffic control in the world and offer a range of airside fire and rescue services.

Our global transport expertise:

Lung Shan & Cheung Shan Tunnels, Hong Kong

In 2018, Serco was awarded the contract to manage, operate and maintain the new Lung Shan and Cheung Shan Tunnels in Hong Kong. The Lung Shan Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in Hong Kong. Under the contract, Serco is responsible for traffic operations management, incident response, and maintenance and repair work for all tunnel equipment. This contract builds on Serco’s 25 years’ experience supporting Hong Kong in road and toll management.

Dubai Metro, the world’s largest fully automated driverless metro system

Serco successfully launched the Dubai Metro in 2009. We now operate and maintain the system and, through continuous improvement techniques, we have introduced 49 significant change initiatives that have resulted in an overall cost reduction of 20% to our customer.

The system transports over 500,000 passengers daily with an average availability of 99.99% and average punctuality of 99.96%. We operate and maintain the 74.6km metro infrastructure, 435 vehicles, and 47 stations - the largest driverless system in the world.

 

A trusted transport partner in the United Kingdom

Serco designs, operates and maintains heavy rail, light rail, passenger ferry, and cycle hire schemes in the UK & Europe. We have redefined luxury on the Caledonian Sleeper and have successfully managed Merseyrail, one of the most intensively used networks in the UK, with more than 37 million journeys each year. In addition to this, we ran the highly successful Docklands Light Railway from 1997 to 2013 and increased service reliability from 90% to a consistent 99.4% MAA or above.

In 2019, Transperth customers in Western Australia topped satisfaction rankings for the sixth year running in a study of Australia’s metropolitan railways, conducted by customer research company Canstar Blue.
