Megan's story
Our Citizen Services team recruits more than 850 entry level call centre roles each year across Australia.
We partner with a national employment services provider to provide job opportunities to people in programs such as jobactive, Disability Employment Services, Vocational Training and Employment Centres (VTEC) and indigenous and community specific support services. In 2016, more than 200 jobseekers were offered roles through this partnership.
Hear from Megan, one of our team members who was referred though the program.
Tell me a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to working with Serco?
I was working as a Case Manager for Vision Australia working in Gippsland Region. After I finished up there, I switched to volunteer work for a year. After I joined Echo (a Disability Employment Services program provider), I was referred to the role at Serco.
How long have you worked at Serco?
Just over 10 months.
What is your role at Serco? Tell me about the sorts of things your job involves each day.
Working at the contact centre I respond to inbound calls and action any correspondence. An opportunity came up within the recruitment team so I put my hand up and was successful. In the recruitment team I assist with resume screening, conducting telephone interviews and completing reference checks, liaising with candidates and placing people in jobs.
How did you find out about the opportunity to work here and what prompted you to consider a role working with us?
I was put forward by Echo employment. I always enjoyed working in roles assisting and supporting other people so I wanted to continue working in this field and Serco presented that opportunity.
Once you accepted a role at Serco, tell me about the training and induction you received.
I was in a group of 20 new trainees, the training was very thorough which enabled me learn all the content required to assist customers over the phone.
How have you found the experience of working at Serco?
It has been very positive. All my colleagues, supervisors and managers have been very supportive.
What words of advice would you give to someone else looking for work at the moment?
Register with an agency like Echo because they already have relationships with organisations like Serco and would be aware of any suitable opportunities. At the same time, keep actively looking for work.
