Fit for Life Program
Following the success of the Fit for Life program within our Melbourne Parks and Gardens team, Serco were pleased to support the expansion of the program to the team at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth.
Designed to improve the well-being of participants and uplift team culture, the Fit for Life program is about more than just physical health and fitness. The program takes a holistic approach to wellness and includes mental, physical, social, community, career and economic benefits.
With 22 participants at Fiona Stanley Hospital, the program focussed on improving awareness of health and wellbeing for participants. It was great to see the team get involved in the wide variety on offer including boxing, yoga, nutrition education and a cooking class.
In addition, Matt Runnalls from Mindfull Australia presented on the importance of communication and compassion as we interact with people with mental illness and how to normalise conversations around mental health and wellbeing.
The feedback from those who participated has been overwhelming positive and we look forward to rolling out the program again. Here are some of the quotes from our recent Fiona Stanley group…
“The fit for life program allows you to engage with activities you may not think of trying or doing on your own. I have always wanted to learn how to make gnocchi, and it was fun doing it in a team environment online. The program may help you meet other staff within the organisation which can lead to new opportunities.”
“I really enjoyed the Fit for Life program, which provided great information, advice on how to change my lifestyle with fitness, diet and mental resilience. The dietician was informative, friendly and interactive. Sports trainers and yoga group sessions were great, and the online cooking class was fun. But the very best part of the program was building positive workplace relationships with others outside my department.”
" I absolutely loved this FFL program, I have changed a few habits of mine after finishing this course that would include looking for sugar content in the breakfast cereal, restarted HIIT classes after 2 years and focusing on my mental health and for those around me after listening to Matt Runnalls seminar."
“Thank you very much for organising the Fit for life for us. Since I heard about the program, I love it as I normally love eating healthy food and exercise. This program has inspired me to fill up some gaps and learn more.”
“I participated in the Serco Fit for Life program, I’m glad I decided to give it a try. The program helped me improve my physical and mental health, as well as my productivity and creativity at work. I learned how to eat better, exercise more, manage stress, and balance my work and personal life. The program was fun, engaging, and supportive. I also enjoyed the camaraderie and motivation from my colleagues who joined the program. I am so grateful for this opportunity, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to kick start a healthier and happier life.”
