Grafton plans well advanced
The Daily Examiner has published an article on Serco’s role in the New Grafton Correctional Centre (NGCC). The outlet said Serco is "well advanced with its plans" for the 1700-bed facility, which is scheduled to open in 2020.
The publication said the "good news" for the local economy is that "Serco is looking to train and employ a large percentage of its jail staff locally". It also noted that Serco "had some interesting insight into how they had reduced the level of re-offending from 60 percent to 28 percent at its jail in Western Australia."
Serco is part of the NorthernPathways consortium which was awarded the contract to design, build and operate NGCC in a Public Private Partnership for the NSW Government in 2017.
Update: On 2 March 2018, the NSW Government announced that the New Grafton Correctional Centre will be named the Clarence Correctional Centre.
