We were honoured to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and her husband, Mr. Dennis Wilson, to Clarence Correctional Centre last week as part of their visit to the Clarence Valley. During their visit, the Vice Regal couple toured the facility, spoke with staff and inmates, and gained further insights into our operator-led design, focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration.
During the Vice Regal couple's facility tour, they met inmates and learned about the in-cell tablet technology used at the facility, which allows inmates to manage their day-to-day schedules. This technology also provides inmates with after-hours access to a wide range of features available in society, such as education, movies, music, games, programs, and well-being interventions to support their rehabilitation and reintegration journey.
As part of their tour, inmates working under Serco’s Catering Trade Instructor assisted a qualified fine dining chef to prepare light refreshments, which were served alongside a display of award-winning art created by peer-led inmate art groups.
The visit concluded with a moving cultural performance by a combined First Nations and Pacifika dance troupe. The performers, including many First Nations inmates who took great pride in dancing on their ancestral land, shared their cultural backgrounds with the guests. The performance incorporated traditional dances and songs from both cultures, with Māori, Samoan, and Fijian performers leading a unified Haka, Cibi, and Siva Tau.
