Serco supports positive outcomes for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men

Serco is honoured to partner with the Clontarf Foundation in 2023, providing $50,000 to support students in Clontarf Academies across Australia.
Established in 2000, the Clontarf Foundation works to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, equipping them to participate more meaningfully in society.
In addition to our financial contribution, Serco has also committed to increasing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men into various roles across our business.
Serco AsPac CEO, Peter Welling said this partnership aims to provide long-term benefits for individuals and the broader community, in line with Serco’s third Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commitments.
“Through this partnership, we hope to improve school engagement of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, and enable their involvement in higher education, vocational training, and long-term employment,” Mr Welling said.
“We're committed to being a meaningful partner in reconciliation and continuing to support positive outcomes for First Nations communities and peoples throughout Australia.”
To bolster our national support for the Clontarf Foundation, Serco will also work locally with Clontarf Academies in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Western Australia to develop an annual program of student interaction and workplace visits with Serco team members based in these areas.
Clontarf Foundation Founder and CEO, Gerard Neesham said he is delighted to extend the organisation’s work with Serco to create meaningful employment opportunities across the country.
“These apprenticeship and traineeship placements with Serco mean that students involved in our 148 Academies across Australian have more opportunities to create a meaningful career,” Mr Neesham said.
“Being able to tell our students there are already employment opportunities waiting for them with Serco is exciting, and we hope this will encourage more year 12 enrolments and improve overall performance.”
At Serco, we know that diversity is our strength, and we aim to bring greater awareness about the cultures and spirit of First Nations peoples. With our vast reach across sectors and geographies, we have developed important relationships with First Nations organisations, businesses, and communities, and we continue to embed new initiatives and expand our ambition as part of our RAP.
