Mobilising support for domestic violence victims

Family and domestic abuse is experienced by people regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. The devastating consequences can have long-lasting effects on emotional, financial, and social wellbeing.

Established in 2022, our Family & Domestic Abuse (FDA) working group focuses on raising awareness and education on the impact of family and domestic abuse. The group is actively seeking ways to provide support to colleagues who might be impacted by family and domestic abuse by creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace. In support of these activities, the working group actively seeks partnerships with external organisations to positively impact local communities.

The working group recently partnered with DV Safe Phone in Australia, which works with over 200 agencies to provide crucial "safe phones" to individuals experiencing domestic violence, aiming to ensure that a safe phone gets into the hands of every victim of domestic violence.

These phones ensure victims' safety enabling victims/survivors to access help when they need it most. Across many of our sites we have deployed mobile phone collection boxes, encouraging employees to donate old phones. With the support of our Digital team and volunteers they will handle the phone collecting, resetting, and cleaning for redistribution and reuse.

Capitalising on Serco's volunteer policy, our growth team members generously dedicated their time to collaborate with Women's Community Shelters in Sydney. This organisation collaborates with communities to establish fresh shelters, offering brief yet vital emergency lodging and assistance within a secure setting.

Here, homeless women can reconstruct their self-esteem, seize control, and find fulfillment in their lives. Our team spent a day in constructing donated furniture at The Haven Residences. This collective effort aimed to contribute to the setup of new shelter amenities, providing essential support to homeless women and children in need.
