Prison Programs

Serco designs and delivers prison programs that reduce reoffending, while addressing the individual rehabilitation needs of offenders. These research-based offender management programs support the successful reintegration of offenders into the community.

Our justice facilities deliver specialist intervention, education and vocational training, healthcare, and employment, supported by post-release support programs, which are critical to ensuring successful community reintegration.

Our programs are underpinned by a restorative justice framework and responsible prisoner model that promotes respect, encourages positive behaviours, and allows prisoners to learn and take responsibility for managing their own circumstances.

By challenging entrenched thinking patterns, we help prisoners become responsible citizens.

Key Facts

  • We deliver prison support services to around 10,000 prisoners every year and work with hundreds of partners to meet the needs of individuals in our care and the communities we serve.
  • We strive to set the benchmark for correctional facilities. Acacia Prison was the first prison in Australia to launch secure Email a Prisoner (EMAP) technology, the first to introduce the award-winning Storybook Dads program, and one of the first to obtain AGPAL accreditation in the prison health centre, aligning standards to a community GP service.
  • Our healthcare services at Wandoo Reintegration Facility in Western Australia were recognised by the Office of the Inspector for Custodial Services, which reported: “We were impressed, not just with the level of health service provision, but by the efforts made to educate residents to care for themselves and to improve their levels of health and fitness.”
  • In the first three years of operation at Wandoo Reintegration Facility, we achieved a reoffending rate around half of that of the national average in Australia.
