December 2024
Dear colleagues,
Finally having a chance to sit down and send out my first Serco Health Update!
I recognise many names on the mailing list, having spoken to so many of you during the onboarding process over the years. I hope I will have an opportunity to catch up with many of you in person over the coming months.
It has been a busy few months since I was onboarded as Serco’s Chief Medical Officer. The Health Executive team has launched several new initiatives to drive improvement across our sector. We have established the Health Hub, a fortnightly gathering of the Health Executive team to discuss all things medical: from existing projects, new trends and potential areas of growth, to new medical technologies and innovations.
We also launched the Serco Health Alliance Forum, a meeting place for us to introduce and showcase Serco Health to potential partners and collaborators, to better understand the barriers they are facing in their health ventures and to collaborate on potential solutions. I had the opportunity to present this at the recent RACMA conference in Brisbane and have had many interesting follow up conversations since.
Under the Health Hub, we also launched the Serco For Life initiative, aimed at establishing ourselves as a one-career company. How do we build the Serco Health brand and attract health staff to join us… for the entirety of a career?
I am interested in understanding what brings you value, growth, and satisfaction? How do we better establish more robust relationships with our health workforce? Should we host an online community and peer support platform or set up face-to-face dinners at conferences and other events for Serco staff and partners? Should we bring back the medical education days we hosted pre-pandemic?
As an educator and academic, I am also keen to hear how we can support your research ideas and publications and would love ideas on how we can leverage our Registered Training Organisation to help you on your educational journey and accreditation needs.
I am keen to hear your thoughts and comments so please reach out via our workforce survey link attached below, or directly to me via email.
I look forward to hearing from you all.
Derrick.

PS. For those interested, the Serco Impact Magazine was very generous in profiling my role.
