Serco Wellness: Inspiring a dynamic culture of wellbeing

Our people 2019
To support a widely dispersed North American workforce (based in locations as far away as Hawaii and Goose Bay, Canada), our Serco Americas Division launched ‘Serco Wellness’ to inspire and harness employees’ own drive and determination to improve their circumstances on a local and individual basis, promoting a shared culture of proactive wellbeing by encouraging personal wellbeing agendas.
To date, the Serco Wellness team have introduced and continue to deliver a range of different initiatives, including:
- Rise to the Challenge. In partnership with a US health services organisation, Rise to the Challenge is a fresh and compelling system of individual incentivisation. Colleagues are eligible to participate in monthly tasks and contests aligned to different dimensions of wellbeing, earning tickets for a prize lottery. Rise to the Challenge has been consistently popular, with annual participation rates in excess of 600 unique participants.
- Serco Babies. We are excited to celebrate with new parents on the arrival of their new family members. We have launched our ‘Serco Babies’ programme in North America which provides a baby package for all registered births or adoptions. The pack includes clothing, a fleece blanket, toys and parenting books, with a personal note from our divisional CEO. Since launching, we have welcomed more than 150 babies into our family. We also provide a platform for proud parents to share photos of their babies in their new outfits with colleagues. All of this we hope reassures our working parents of our continued support when they return to work.
- Wellness Warriors. In the Wellness Warriors programme, colleagues are invited to nominate others who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to personal wellness or worked to promote wellness and create a more inclusive work environment at Serco. At the end of the year, four nominees receive a prize package, which for 2019 included a trip to Walt Disney World.
