Working with the UK government

to provide employment, vocational and business support services to communities

Services We Offer

Serco’s Employment, Skills and Enterprise (ESE) business is focused on enabling citizens to improve their lives. To enable this to happen, we offer support and guidance to jobseekers to improve their prospects of securing employment and provide business support to help SMEs at the heart of local economic development. We also hire apprentices internally across a range of sectors whilst also providing a comprehensive apprenticeship support service to other companies.

The Work Programme – helping jobseekers into employment

Serco helps jobseekers to gain sustainable employment through the Government’s Work Programme. It is delivered on behalf of the Department of Work and Pensions and part funded by the European Social Fund.

Launched in June 2011, the Work Programme is the UK Government’s flagship, back-to-work initiative that provides a coordinated package of support to individuals experiencing long-term unemployment, regardless of the benefits they claim. Serco has been managing two Contract Package Areas: West Midlands (Coventry, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, The Marches); and South Yorkshire (Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster). The programme is delivered on a payment-by-results basis.

Our established model for delivering back-to-work programmes is to combine our strengths as a prime contractor with the knowledge and expertise of local providers and stakeholders to whom we outsource 100% of the delivery. Our partnership approach means that our jobseekers benefit from a package of support provided through the expertise and experience of the very best providers from the private, public and third sectors.

Together with our provider network, we have supported around 28,000 individuals into over 45,000 jobs since the programme began, helping to transform their lives and those of their families - yourworkprogramme.com

We aim to support apprenticeships in a diverse range of roles across as many of our contracts as possible.  Serco offers apprenticeships to over 200 job types in a range of industries including, leisure management, hospitality, engineering, custodial services, security, customer services, facilities management and business administration. Our aim is to have a dynamic, engaged workforce that will draw on the best of the nation’s talent in challenging, yet inspiring roles.
