What We Do:

The Forth Valley Royal Hospital, opened in 2010 and has 860 In-patient and Day Care spaces and was built on the site of the former Royal Scottish National Hospital in Larbert.

Serco is part of a team, led by Forth Health Limited (owned by John Laing Infrastructure Fund Ltd) and including Laing O'Rourke as the Design & Construct Partner, who have been working in partnership with NHS Forth Valley for a number of years. The hospital building was completed over three phases with the first patients seen in phase one in the summer of 2010. The final phase was completed in the summer of 2011

Services Provided:

HardFM

Serco is responsible for planned and reactive maintenance of all electrical and mechanical services, building fabric, infrastructure and grounds maintenance and for procuring and managing the utilities for this prestigious 95,000 m2 facility nestled within 27.5 hectares of landscaped grounds and gardens.

SoftFM

Serco is responsible for providing the full range of Soft FM services including; ward housekeeping, domestics, portering, patient and retail catering, helpdesk, switchboard, reception, waste management, linen, security and car parking.

How We Do It

Technology

The innovative building design separates the services from patients and visitors. Thirteen robots (automatic guided vehicles) use segregated tunnels and Facilities Management (FM) hubs for the collection and delivery of linen, waste, meals and supplies to the wards and departments.

Serco commissioned the installation of a site-wide Wi-Fi network that support wireless handheld devices integrated with a universal Helpdesk System which are used by the Ward Housekeepers, Porters and other services to manage real time task distribution and reporting.

Microfibre cleaning, disposable curtains and ozone disinfection have been implemented to assist in the control of infection.
 
People

Over 700 staff transferred to the new facility from the existing Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary and Stirling Royal Infirmary. Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) techniques help to ensure the smooth transition of people and services over the multi-phase transfer. Serco continue to engage with the newly transferred staff through various mediums including: newsletters, annual roadshows and frequent site visits.
