What We Do:

With 663 inpatient day beds, 56 day care beds, day hospitals for the elderly and those experiencing mental health illnesses, a dedicated, centralised maternity unit and accident and emergency department, Wishaw General Hospital is one of Scotland's flagship Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospitals, providing an inclusive range of health services to the local community of North Lanarkshire. 

Built by Summit Healthcare, a special purpose vehicle formed specifically to design, build and maintain the site through a 35 year contract. NHS Lanarkshire appointed Serco to provide Total Facilities Management across the 64,000 square metre site enabling NHS Lanarkshire to concentrate on core healthcare delivery.

Services Provided:

HardFM

Serco are responsible for; planned and reactive maintenance of all electrical and mechanical services, building fabric, infrastructure and grounds maintenance for the 64000 square metre building with over 8000 maintainable assets/asset groups.

SoftFM

Serco are responsible for providing the full range of Soft FM services including; Cleaning, Patient Catering, Retail Catering, Helpdesk, Switchboard, Portering, Linen and Laundry, Security, Car Parking and Grounds.

How We Do It

Domestic Cleaning

Wishaw General Hospital sits in the top quartile and have done so since the contract began. Serco and NHS Lanarkshire have a strategic partnership, linking in with other NHS Lanakshire suppliers to ensure we give the best possible experience to Wishaw General Hospital Patients.  Furthermore, Serco at Wishaw General Hospital is a British Institute of Cleaning (BICS) accredited centre of excellence in cleaning.

Security and Car Parking

Serco professionally resolves over 6000 security incidents per year, as well as monitoring the safety of patients, staff and visitors with over 40 CCTV cameras, 24 hours per day/7 days per week.

Patient Catering

Serco serve over 600,000 patient meals per year.  All meals are freshly cooked on site and Serco are committed to providing healthier food choices for patients, utilising local quality suppliers. Our specialist diet chef works alongside the hospital dieticians to ensure that the dietary, nutritional and therapeutic requirements of all our patient groups are met.  In 2012, Serco were awarded the Healthy Living Award and Eat Safe award.

Helpdesk and Switchboard

Serco coordinate over 50,000 seamless patient movements per annum as well as collecting 410 tonnes of domestic and 330 tonnes of clinical waste per year which are all coordinated through a helpdesk function.  Through calls to the hospital and helpdesk requests, Serco answer and process over 820,000 calls to the hospital per annum.
