Health & Safety

We place significant importance and high priority on Health and Safety.  Care of our employees and customers in Health and Safety matters is the concern of everyone within our contracts. We have an excellent record with regards to health and safety and we are extremely delighted that our leisure business has been recognised for outstanding health and safety performance in the annual Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) national safety awards taking home the first-ever industry award for the Leisure Sector.

The award follows Serco Leisure's success last year when we achieved a Highly Commended in the Public Service & Local Government Sector award.  These prestigious awards are significant achievements and reflect the culture and commitment towards health and safety and the proactive way in which all of our sites manage health and safety.  The company has a dedicated Safety, Risk and Compliance Team which reports into the Serco UK and Europe Board, thereby ensuring health and safety matters receive management focus and attention at the highest level.

We have developed systems and processes to control risks and at the same time embed an effective and sound culture within the workforce.  The processes are designed to protect our employees and others and create and sustain a safe and healthy environment, at all times, for our staff, our customers, members of the public and any other third party.  These processes are developed and defined within a formal management system structure of documented procedures designed to meet the specific requirements of each contract and cover all services provided.


We are wholly committed to reducing energy consumption, minimising chemical usage, recycling appropriate wastes and recycling and reducing water consumption.  In support of this we are working on an ongoing programme of energy efficiency projects across a large number of leisure centres in the UK. We are committed to improving energy performance and are continuously reviewing opportunities to further reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.

The impact of our energy management initiatives has been noted by our clients and customers and we have received a number of awards including Green Apple and Big Tick awards.  Once implemented within a leisure facility our tried and tested Energy Management and Monitoring programme reduces the impact of operations on the environment.  The monitoring and management of energy consumption is undertaken using our 'Vision' and 'Powerhouse' software.
