Published: 8 Mar 2012

Serco Group plc (Serco), the international service company, is pleased that its consortium has been selected by the New Zealand Government as preferred bidder to provide and operate the new Wiri prison in Auckland, New Zealand (link to the New Zealand Government's announcement is provided below).

Under the design, construct, manage and finance contract Serco will manage the new 960-place male prison once it becomes operational in 2015. The prison will be built by Serco's construction partner Fletcher Construction with the design drawing on Serco's international experience of operating prisons to ensure the construction will complement the innovative approach to reducing reoffending in a safe and secure environment.

Detailed contract negotiations will now commence with contract signature and more detailed information expected later this year.
