Serco wins excellence award for Hong Kong's EcoPark
Date: 19 Oct 2012
Serco has received an award for excellence from the Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management (HKIFM) for its work operating the region's first recycling industrial park.
The 'Excellence in Facility Management' award was presented at a ceremony on Thursday, 18 October. It recognises the outstanding performance and excellent contribution of facility management service providers delivering high standards in a variety of sectors. Serco's award recognises a number of aspects of its management of EcoPark, including technology, green initiatives, carbon reduction, universal access, occupational health & safety and teambuilding. Managing EcoPark is a great opportunity for Serco to put environmental sustainability practices to work on behalf of the Hong Kong Government. It is an industrial site that provides rentable land to the environmental and recycling sectors and is designed to promote the reuse, recovery and recycling of waste resources that were previously sent offshore.
EcoPark also hosts an educational, high-tech visitors centre equipped with engaging displays, interactive games and videos, 3D multimedia exhibits and life-size models. Visitors can learn about environmentally friendly waste management and disposal, effective ways to reduce waste and increase their awareness of environmental protection. The first of its kind in Hong Kong, the site covers a large area of 200,000m2 and has been operational since 2007.
Serco provides high quality day-to-day management of the park, maintenance and allocation of common facilities, monitoring of tenant's environmental performance, environmental and occupational health and safety training as well as waste exchange programs. Serco Asia Pacific's Chief Executive David Campbell congratulated Serco's EcoPark staff on winning the award, saying it underlined Serco's commitment to environmental sustainability.
'I am extremely proud of the facilities management award handed to Serco's EcoPark team. The facility is a truly unique initiative in Hong Kong. It will continue to benefit current and future generations and educate them about the value of environmentally friendly practices from small scale to large scale, showing us what can be achieved by individuals and industries alike. It is a privilege to be a part of it.
'I would like to congratulate and thank the staff of EcoPark who work hard to deliver high-quality facilities management services which support the Hong Kong government's strategy on waste management'.
