Serco signs new five year contract with Enfield Council
Date: 08 Jul 2010
Serco, the international services company, has signed a new information communication technology (ICT) support services contract with Enfield Council. The new contract, known as "EnfieldIT", will deliver guaranteed cost savings of 20% for the council, improve services for Council employees and improve the communications and interactions with the residents of Enfield.
The initial five year contract, valued at £24m and with an option to extend for a further 4 years, is the result of Serco's successful rebid for the Council's ICT services, which Serco has delivered since 1999.
A key factor for the selection of Serco was the improvement to service practices and more efficient ways of operating, which guarantee efficiency savings for the Council over the life of the contract. Efficiencies will be realised through the introduction and more wide-spread use of a range of new services including those which support greater flexible and mobile working enabling council staff to work more effectively. Under the contract Serco will also introduce the use of more efficient software, improvements in the electronic management of data and provide technical support and security infrastructure.
Serco will also work with the council to support a series of improvements transforming the way in which residents interact with the council increasing the accessibility to council services and including the ability to deliver a more focused and personalised approach to customer service.
Rob Leak, Chief Executive of Enfield Council said: "Enfield has a comprehensive transformation programme that is already delivering real efficiencies and service improvements. Technology is integral to our strategy as we strive to give our residents more choice and control, and fundamentally change the way we work both within our organisation and with partners. I am delighted that we can move into the next generation of relationships between local authorities and businesses. The successful procurement provided a strong field and I'm delighted so many were excited by the opportunities at Enfield. The outcome will see guaranteed savings in excess of 20% for the Council and joint working on new initiatives that will bring further savings while improving services. In recognition of the current financial climate Serco have risen to the challenge and are supporting the Council to deliver on its wider efficiency agenda. With high levels of deprivation and unemployment in the borough."
According to Jonathan Prew Managing Director of Business Solutions at Serco, this contract will deliver a step change from the previous ICT service and addresses the imperative to think differently as local authorities face unprecedented fiscal challenges.
"This is an exciting time in Enfield and Serco. EnfieldIT not only brings investment to the Borough but also creates a framework that offers the scope for wider engagement to deliver even greater benefits. Working with the Council, we have already jointly commissioned new areas of work that will lead to improvements in efficiency across the whole area of customer engagement. The new areas of work are genuinely ground breaking and will not only bring benefit and efficiency to Enfield and its residents but importantly create a model that can be replicated quickly and cost effectively for other authorities. "
