Date: 22 Mar 2010
A Serco-led partnership has supported the early delivery of the government's national target of 3500 Sure Start Children's Centres across England.
Since 2006, the Together for Children partnership has worked with all 152 local authorities in England to support the development of their children's centres to provide a universal services and reaching over 2.7 million children aged 0-5 and their families.
Serco National Programmes Director, Liz Railton said: "It is a tribute to the hard work of local authorities, their partners and children's centre teams that this very challenging target has been met early. This means that over 2.7 million children and their families now have access to a wide range of services that support not only the child but parents too, and which make a very real contribution to improving their lives."
Together for Children has worked with local authorities to support the development of:
- services that meet the need of local communities
- joint working with health services and Jobcentre Plus
- links with other local providers, including private and voluntary organisations
- business, finance and sustainability plans
