Serco recognised for world-class health and safety practice

Date: 24 Oct 2011

Serco has been awarded the British Safety Council's 2011 'Sword of Honour' for excellent health and safety management across a number of its UK Government contracts. This prestigious award is given to international organisations that have proved themselves to be at the forefront of health and safety. This year, a total of 72 companies applied and Serco received six of the 54 Swords presented.

To be awarded a Sword of Honour organisations must firstly achieve five stars in the British Safety Council Occupational Health and Safety Audit and then prove themselves to be among the 'best of the best' in front of an independent adjudicator. The six successful Serco contracts were HMP Doncaster and HMP Lowdham Grange, Colnbrook and Yarl's Wood immigration removal centres, and the Electronic Monitoring contract in England and Wales, as well as the contract in Scotland.

Jeremy Stafford, CEO of Serco's civil government business said: "To receive such a prestigious award for six of our contracts is a tremendous achievement. It demonstrates the significant commitment to health and safety by our contract directors and their teams, as well as Serco's continued commitment to providing high quality sustainable services across our international business."
