RoSPA in their 2011 awards has acknowledged the outstanding safety performance of Serco's businesses, contracts and joint ventures with 24 individual accolades. The RoSPA Awards are the UK's most respected and prodigious awards for occupation health and safety management performance. With the 24 awards this year, Serco has now been recognised 76 times over the past three years.
This year, five Serco provided services have been recognised with sector awards. The National Nuclear Laboratory received the top award in the Research & Development sector, whilst the National Physical Laboratory was commended in the same sector. The Defence Science & Technology Laboratory was highly commended in the Facilities Management sector, and the Transport and Distribution Sector Award was received by our joint venture, Northern Rail for the third successive year. Serco's contract at the Leicester Royal Infirmary received the Highly Commended Award in the Health Care sector
Other services provided by Serco were also recognised, including RAF Fylingdales, our longest running contract, receiving the highly prestigious Order of Distinction, an award which marks the service's sixteenth successive Gold Award. Our Air Surveillance and Control Systems contract supporting the RAF, Marine Services to the Royal Navy, Technical Consulting Services business, and our Joint Venture at the Atomic Weapons Establishment were all recognised with Presidents Awards, for their high level of safety performance maintained over a number of years.
Christopher Hyman, Chief Executive of Serco Group plc, said: "I am very proud that once again our people have been recognised by RoSPA for the high standards of health and safety practiced on our contracts. It is especially pleasing to see so many services retain their awards, or even improve on last year's achievements. High levels of health and safety is an integral part of the high quality and efficient services that we provide for our customers."
