Key Additions to Serco's Transport Operations in London and Dubai

Date: 09 Sep 2011

Serco is beginning operations on two major expansions to our transport business internationally.

Firstly, we are commencing operation of the Green Line on the Dubai Metro which was being officially inaugurated today by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Secondly, Serco is also starting operations on the new Stratford International extension of London's Docklands Light Railway (DLR) following its official opening last week. This will be a key part of the transport network for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The inauguration of the Green line on the Dubai Metro comes exactly two years after the launch of the Red Line on which Serco has been delivered world-leading levels of reliability and availability. The 23-kilometre Green line will be the second part of the world's longest driverless train system with a total length of 75 kilometres and a total of 50 trains operating at peak times. In preparation for the commercial operation of the new line, Serco has recruited and trained nearly 400 new staff as well as conducting a series of operational tests.

The six kilometre extension to the DLR from Stratford International to Canning Town includes four new stations and will connect five Olympic venues as well as improving access for communities in the Lower Lea Valley area and connecting to Westfield Stratford City, Europe's largest shopping centre.

Nick Brown, Serco's Global Transport Director said: "Serco has a strong track record of providing high performing key transport services for our customers round the world. The start of operations on both the Dubai Metro's Green line and the Stratford extension to London's Dockland's Light Railway are exciting developments for our international transport business and I am delighted that we are expanding our relationships with customers on these key services for London and Dubai."
