Date: 26 Nov 2013
The new Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure complex in Northern Ireland was officially opened by HRH Princess Anne earlier this year as part of a visit that was one of several engagements for Princess Anne in Northern Ireland.
Serco, together with the Northern Community Leisure Trust and North Down Borough Council, welcomed Princess Anne with an impressive local display of swimming, swimming lessons, water polo, wheelchair basketball, trampoline, dry side diving to name a few. Princess Anne heralded the complex as a true legacy of the 2012 Olympics and congratulated North Down Borough Council for creating a hub for Northern Irish sport.
Keith Thomas, Managing Director of Serco's Leisure businesss, said: "It's a privilege to be working with the Northern Community Leisure Trust and North Down Borough Council to introduce Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex to the community. We look forwarding to managing the leisure complex to the highest of standards for the local community to enjoy. The complex provides sports enthusiasts with state of the art training facilities and equipment including activities and events for families with children. With Serco's experience in operating over 75 leisure centres across the UK including five national sports centres, many of which are used by Olympic athletes for their training, we are well equipped to ensure that this prestigious sporting complex operates to the highest standards and meets the expectations of the local community."
Brian Taylor, Chairman of the Northern Community Leisure Trust, commented: "We are proud to work in partnership with Serco and North Down Borough Council during the development of one of Northern Ireland's most prestigious sporting venues. The Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex is now a hub for local sports talent, a contributory factor in future sporting success for the province and a home for all the community."
