Serco scoops prestigious Value for Money award

Date: 05 Jul 2013

Serco, the international services company, has won the Value for Money Award at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Supplier Excellence Awards 2013, which took place at the end of May in London.

The awards recognise the Department's very best suppliers from companies delivering IT systems, security and back office support, through to those responsible for building management, specialist programmes and helping the unemployed obtain work or training.

The 'Value for Money' award was in relation to the Child Maintenance Group contract and was presented for demonstrating a continuous improvement ethos that has seen Serco deliver a number of initiatives, including taking ownership on the risk of realisation of benefits and making investments upfront to deliver these savings. These initiatives have seen improved customer experience whilst driving down costs for DWP.

On receiving the Value for Money Award, Lynne Sheehy, Account Director, Serco Global Services said: "We are delighted to have won this award for an initiative that has not only delivered Value for Money, but has also demonstrated an innovative approach to a real business problem which will ultimately improve the service to our customers and deliver more money to more children. I have a great pride in the team at Bolton who have won this award and thank our colleagues from the Department for their support."

Andrew Forzani, DWP Procurement Director, said, "This is the third year that the Department has recognised the contribution that its suppliers have made to the success of the organisation. These are now regarded as highly prestigious awards, and are supported by both Ministers and the Department's Permanent Secretary. There is fierce competition amongst the supplier community, and I send my congratulations to all of this year's winners."

Serco's highly skilled staff, based primarily in Bolton, provide a Clerical Cases Management Service to ensure that the Child Support Agency's 'off-system' cases are managed and maintained effectively.

Every case is unique and, with many cases involving multiple children and multiple parents, the diversity of skills required are wide-ranging - from the tracing of individuals, to debt negotiation and enforcement as well as preparation for legal proceedings.
