Paul McCarter has joined Serco as Managing Director for its UK Defence business which provides mission critical support to the UK’s Armed Forces across land, air and sea – both at home and overseas.

Paul has over 20 years’ experience in the aerospace and defence sector. He began his career in the military as a Royal Signals officer before moving into the commercial sector where he has worked with BT, Racal, Thales and Cobham. His main roles have been at executive level in business development, strategy and general management, where his experience has been used to turn around and build multiple product and service-based companies.

Paul is a keen technologist with an engineering background that has enabled him to achieve great results running technology-based groups serving a diverse customer set including the defence and intelligence sectors, the United Nations and governments worldwide.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul McCarter said: “I am very proud to join the Serco team: I have seen first-hand some of the great work they do both while serving in the military and working in the government sector. Serco has an outstanding calibre of employees, a lot of whom are ex-services, with a great work ethic and a continued desire to serve their country.”

Kevin Craven, Chief Executive Officer for Serco’s Central Government division, added: “For over 50 years, Serco has proudly supported the UK’s Armed Forces. Paul’s experience makes him well placed to strengthen and grow this important business for us; I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Paul will be responsible for over 4,000 employees working across the UK Defence business and an annual turnover of £680m.

Serco’s capability areas in the defence sector include the provision of the highest quality organisational transformation; airport and base operational support; engineering support services; maritime support; as well as education and training services.
