Serco helps Brent Council win top industry award

Serco’s efforts to modernise and improve parking services in Brent have helped the London Borough Council scoop a 2016 British Parking Award.

Brent Council were named Team of the Year at the industry awards earlier this month, following a year in which Serco worked closely with them to deliver significant improvements to their parking service.

During 2015, these improvements included a new online system that allows motorists to view details of their penalty charge notice (PCN) and pay or appeal; an online parking permit system allowing residents to buy permits 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and a new cashless-only car park. Serco’s cutting edge traffic enforcement cameras have also helped cut down congestion and improve road safety in the borough.

Gavin Moore, Head of Parking and Lighting at Brent Council, said: "Serco is a core part of our winning parking team. Together we are committed to providing a modern and improved parking service to residents, business and drivers across Brent. We look forward to continuing our close partnership and implementing further improvements during 2016, such as the introduction of body-worn cameras to make enforcement more reliable and safer.”

Terry Prince, Serco’s West London Alliance Contract Director, added: “I’m delighted that our support to Brent Council in introducing innovative new ways of managing parking and providing an improved service to customers has been recognised with this prestigious industry award. I’d like to thank the team for their hard work and dedication.”

Serco were appointed as Brent Council’s parking management and enforcement contractor in July 2013. The five-year contract is held in partnership with the London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow through the West London Alliance.

Serco is responsible for providing on and off street parking enforcement; CCTV for public space and traffic enforcement; vehicle removal and impounding; pay and display machine maintenance and cash collection; and provision of parking IT and back office services. The company also provides cashless parking (Ringo) to all three local authorities.
