Serco makes donation to local charities in Havering
Date: 26 Aug 2015
Ten charities from across the London Borough of Havering have shared a £10,000 donation from Serco, the council’s waste collection and recycling company, as part of its commitment to the local community.
The ten local charities are:
- The Havering Family Diabetes Group
- The 7th Hornchurch Scout Group
- The Thames Chase Trust
- The Friends of Cottons Park
- The Harold Hill Foodbank
- Havering Mind
- St Francis Hospice
- The Friends of Bedford’s Park
- A fund for local schools
Representatives from all of these organisations yesterday attended a lunchtime reception at the CEME Conference Centre in Rainham, Essex hosted by Serco Managing Director, Mike Boult.
At the event, Mike Boult handed out cheques and pledged an additional £10,000 per year for the duration of Serco’s seven-year contract with the council, which began in August 2014.
The same charities also received a share of £3,400 earlier this year, which was the result of donations from local residents who use the Green Points – Havering Scheme, which encourages residents to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Councillor Benham, Cabinet Member for the Environment said:
“This generous donation by Serco will benefit some very worthy local causes. Serco are working with the Council to support our drive to reduce waste and improve recycling for residents.”
Mike Boult added:
“Serco is committed to providing a great service on behalf of the council and local residents, as well as investing in the communities we serve. This scheme is our way of helping local charities carry out their good work and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this first donation.”
Serco delivers a range of environmental services across London to five local authorities, servicing well over one million residents across the capital every week.
