FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provides assistance and support to protect the life you’ve worked hard to build. It’s mission is to provide insurance to help reduce the socio-economic impact of floods. The NFIP is a federal program created by Congress to mitigate future flood losses nationwide through sound, community-enforced building and zoning ordinances and to provide access to affordable, federally-backed flood insurance protection for property owners. The NFIP provides flood insurance to property owners, renters and businesses, and having this coverage helps them recover faster when floodwaters recede. The NFIP also encourages communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations that help mitigate the effects of flooding. There are currently 23,000 participating NFIP communities.
Serco's Role Supporting FEMA NFIP Standard Operations Program
When there is an official Presidential Disaster Declaration, NFIP flood insurance policyholders can file their flood insurance claims. Under the NFIP Standard Operations contract, Serco will establish and mobilize local disaster Flood Response Offices in the affected communities. Serco’s team of claims specialists and adjusters provide comprehensive technical assistance to restore local infrastructure and facilities, ease policyholders through their claims and underwriting issues that arise in post-flood scenarios, and ensure the integrity of the disaster relief activities meet the expectations of NFIP.
The program is authorized through the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and its subsequent modification by the National Flood Insurance Reform Act of 1994 and the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004.
Serco will hire and deploy personnel to travel to affected areas and help communities with informative and empathetic assistance to cope with their flood insurance claim and restoration needs on behalf of FEMA. Our deployments require short-notice activation of either virtual or physical offices and can last for weeks and months depending on the severity of the disaster.
Serco will provide support to FEMA in the execution and delivery of the Standard Operations program. We are looking to build on our cadre of professionals with previous and current FEMA NFIP experience. If you are interested in joining a team defined by helping those whose lives are disrupted by flooding disasters, Serco wants to meet with you.
