Managing the full lifecycle of Unmanned Surface and Undersea Systems requires a team of experts. From design and integration of new unmanned technologies to construction and testing of software and hardware systems for small UAVs and vessels large and small, to providing operations support for research, development, test, and in-service assets, Serco experts are up to the challenge. A part of a global company supporting maritime customers around the world, Serco in North America is the US and Canada division of Serco plc.
Serco’s Unmanned Systems Team
Serco’s Unmanned Systems Team is dedicated to developing and integrating autonomous marine vehicles into the force structure of naval forces worldwide. Learn more about some of our innovative programs below!
- DARPA No Manning Required (NOMARS) ship – Serco is the designer, integrator, and lead contractor for DEFIANT, a DARPA-funded 50m MUSV-class autonomous demonstrator vessel that is under construction now and scheduled for at-sea testing in 2025. The ship has no accommodations or space for humans, is designed to operate continuously for months, employs autonomous collision avoidance and weather routing, and can even refuel at sea without humans on board!
- Panama City UxV Event Support – The Serco team delivers planning, coordination, boat support, and diver support for complete system analysis on Unmanned Aerial / Underwater / Surface Vehicles (UAV/UUV/USV). We build and operate Unmanned Underwater Target Drones, perform software engineering design and programming, and operate our own 36’x13’ research vessel built for at-sea testing for a wide range of marine systems including AUV, UUV, divers, and side scan sonar.
- Newport (RI) Autonomous Maritime Systems Test Center (AMSTC) – Serco provides the Navy’s AMSTC with complex engineering and technical support including UUV software programming, design, development, maintenance, modeling, testing, logistics, and cybersecurity. Our full-spectrum program supports development of new unmanned and automated systems operational capabilities from concept development to fleet deployment including UUV deployment and shore support.
