Highlights
Serco's innovative work in the unmanned maritime space caught the attention of Carlos Del Toro, United States Secretary of the Navy, who stopped by for a first-hand look on our exciting design and concepts. Serco is the prime contractor for the DARPA NOMARS Program (program named for 'No Manning Required Ship')
Serco's Ryan Maatta, Lead Engineer, was recently interview by Naval News on the teams' work on the DARPA NOMARS program. The program is aimed to increase fleet capability at a greatly reduced cost, providing a significantly more efficient cost per mission hour over current crewed or partially crewed vessels being advertised as unmanned. These projects are designed to improve operational efficiency, and most notably protect the lives and safety of our sailors.
-The NOMARS "Defiant" is Serco’s completely unmanned autonomous surface vessel currently under construction for DARPA. As Ryan Maatta stated in his Naval News interview, the NOMARS Defiant vessel has been designed to complete the mission without the additional burden to Navy’s recruiting, port facilities, and existing maintenance infrastructure – all major challenges plaguing the growth of the future surface fleet.
The 'Dauntless' concept model
-The Dauntless conceptual model is a larger autonomous vessel concept design, providing more room for combat and mission systems on deck in addition to meeting higher fleet speeds.
