Serco re-selected to provide support at RAF Cranwell

Published: 12 Nov 2012

Serco Group plc (Serco) is pleased to announce that it has been re-selected to provide the Multi-Activity Contract (MAC) at RAF Cranwell and RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire. The contract, with the Ministry of Defence, valued at almost £23m will see Serco continuing to deliver support services to the RAF for a further three years from April 2013. Serco has already been delivering services on site for over eight years.

RAF Cranwell is an extremely busy training base providing flying training for all military pilots and advanced training for pilots selected for multi-engine aircraft. Together with air cadet flying on the air experience flight, this means many sorties are flown daily by the King Air provided by Serco under the contract.

The Multi Activity Contract (MAC) will run alongside Serco's current Multi Engine Flying Training Contract (MEPT) at RAF College Cranwell which provides support for the 45 (R) Squadron flying training programme, delivering over 5,500 flying hours per year on the King Air B200 aircraft and 3,000 simulator hours per year.

The Multi Activity Contract includes: management and administration, mechanical support facilities, ground engineering support, armoury and workshops, communications information systems, mechanical transport operations and maintenance, supply support, fire and rescue services.

Karen Smart, Director, Defence, Serco UK & Europe Division, "We are delighted to be selected by the MOD for this important contract which builds on our capabilities and experience in delivering services at RAF Cranwell over the past eight years. We have a deep understanding of our client and their needs and are confident we can continue to improve service delivery for them over the next 3 years."

Serco will also continue to provide similar support services at RAF Scampton to three resident units including the Red Arrows.
