Serco UK & Europe has once again been recognised for outstanding health and safety performance with 14 awards and commendations in the annual Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) national safety awards.
Serco secured the top awards for outstanding performance in three industry sectors: Transport, Leisure and Research & Development. Seeing off competition for the fifth time in a row, Northern Rail scooped the Transport, Storage and Distribution Sector Award, while the National Physical Laboratory won the prestigious Research & Development Sector Award with the National Nuclear Laboratory Highly Commended in the same category. For the first time, Serco's leisure business also took home a prestigious sector award recognising the high standard of health and safety across its 75 leisure facilities.
Serco's Defence business received a collection of accolades. The team at RAF Fylingdales - Serco's longest running contract - won an Order of Distinction for 18 consecutive Gold Awards, while Air Surveillance & Air Support and Marine Services both took home the President's Award for 12 and 13 consecutive Gold Awards respectively. Three other Serco defence contracts - DSTL, Serco Defence Academy and Defence Front Line Command - all secured Gold Awards for Occupational Health & Safety.
Serco UK & Europe's health contracts also fared well with Lanarkshire's Wishaw Hospital taking home a President's Award for ten consecutive Gold Awards, the health team at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital receiving a Gold Medal Award for six consecutive golds, and Forth Valley Hospital securing its second gold.
Jeremy Stafford, Chief Executive for Serco UK & Europe, said: "Keeping our operations safe and environmentally responsible is a top priority for Serco. I am delighted that so many of the services we deliver in the UK have been recognised by RoSPA for their high standards of health and safety. Our continued success in these Awards is a reflection of the dedication and expertise of our people."
David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, added "RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Serco has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of these awards."
