Bringing life-saving healthcare support to colleagues in remote locations

We pride ourselves on supporting our people as best we can, which includes a commitment to helping them maintain higher levels of wellbeing.

In 2023, Serco Middle East launched a new annual 'health check' programme for colleagues in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

First introduced in the United Arab Emirates in 2022, and now scaling up across the Middle East, the programme brings professional medical testing and consultation to Serco Middle East colleagues based in or around a network of hub locations. In many cases, this potentially life-saving service is delivered directly to their door, with many health check visits taking place in Serco accommodation centres.

Such a programme is unprecedented in KSA, covering more remote sites such as Al 'Ula and Jubail, from which the nearest medical facilities can be too distant for routine travel. Medical provider records indicate that few employers in KSA deliver such services for remote workforces, and that this is the first time such a programme has been delivered in the Al' Ula region.

The health check programme has been offered to customer teams as well as Serco colleagues and is enhancing Serco's standing in the community for providing workforce care.

The health checks are voluntary and confidential, covering various dimensions of physical wellbeing including standard vitals and visual tests.

More than 600 colleagues took part in the 2023 programme, assisting in the prevention of possible health issues which could have severe consequences if left undiagnosed. For example, one colleague became aware of high blood pressure, while another discovered a genetic eye disorder. Neither had any prior awareness of their conditions but both have now been able to address these issues, thanks to the Serco health check programme.
