Forth Valley Royal Hospital
Forth Valley Royal Hospital is one of the most advanced in Europe. The 860-bed facility was built on the site of the former Royal Scottish National Hospital in Larbert and Serco has been providing an award-winning service for all the non-clinical operations since phase 1 of the development opened in 2010.
Our commitment is to deliver exceptional standards of cleanliness and provide freshly cooked good, tasty food, all for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff. This commitment was recognised with the Golden Service Award for the Cleanest Healthcare Establishment with more than 250 beds being awarded in both 2013 and 2015 as well as the Catering Team of the Year in 2013.
We have also introduced the very latest technology to support everything from the hospital mailroom to the laundry. Our robotic solution uses 13 automatic guided vehicles that operate in specifically designed underground corridors to collect and deliver meals for patients, as well as collect linen. They also move waste and vital medical supplies between the various wards and departments. Our WiFi network has been designed to support wireless handheld devices that encourage more efficient task allocation in Portering and the Estates department. These devices are also used at ward level by housekeeping staff to order meals for inpatients and the system has effectively reduced food waste to less than 5%.
This approach, working in partnership with NHS Forth Valley and the Forth Health PFI consortium, helped us secure the British Institute of Facilities Management Platinum Global FM Award. We also won the Premises and Faculties Management Healthcare Award.
