Our programmes

Business Administrator Level 3

The Business Administrator apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to develop a set of highly transferable skills on which to build your career. Our Business Administrator apprentices are responsible for supporting and engaging with different parts of our organisation and interacting with internal or external customers.

Working independently and as part of a team, your role will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. You’ll be expected to carry out your responsibilities efficiently and with integrity, showing a positive attitude. You’ll need to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and have a proactive approach to developing your own skills. You’ll be expected to show initiative, manage priorities and your own time, and demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as the use of multiple IT packages and systems, training in how to produce accurate records and documents such as emails, letters, files, payments, reports and proposals, document and record production, operational excellence and project management skills.

Entry requirements

To become a Business Administrator Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 4 (or C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Aeronautical Engineer – Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician Level 3

Serco has delivered defence services in the UK since 1964. Every year we strip, repair, rebuild and test fixed wing and helicopter engines for the UK military.

As an Aeronautical Engineer, you’ll work on maintaining the airworthiness of military aircraft including Merlin helicopters and Chinook engines. The role involves highly skilled, complex and specialist work, maintaining aircraft systems according to approved work instructions and accurately completing aircraft documentation. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as mathematical calculations applied in an aircraft maintenance, understanding the materials used in aircraft repair and the fundamentals of aircraft maintenance practices.

Entry requirements

To become an Aeronautical Engineer Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level Maths (grade B), English Language (grade C), one Science subject (grade C) and one additional subject (grade C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Information Communications Technician - Level 3

This apprenticeship provides everything you need to immerse yourself in the exciting world of technology and launch a rewarding career in IT. 

Our IT Support apprentices will be enrolled in the apprenticeship programme, which will be delivered on-site at Serco. There are a range of development pathways within the organisation and the opportunity to gain full training support and encouragement from the Serco team.

You will work within the IT department providing first-line helpdesk support to customers and logging and responding to tickets on the helpdesk. You will work towards delivering a high-quality IT support service in line with the targeted SLAs and learn the relationships between work processes and the business. You will be expected to have an interest in IT, good communication skills and an eagerness to learn and use your initiative.

Serco has a strong commitment to apprentices and training and as a successful Serco apprentice, you will be provided with unparalleled support throughout the duration of your programme. You will develop the skills you need for the job by working alongside your colleagues and getting hands-on experience. We work hand in hand with the expert training team at Baltic to continue to have an amazing track record of taking on huge numbers of apprentices. 

Entry requirements

To become an Information Communication Technician - Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 4 (or C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Property Maintenance Operative Level 2

As a Maintenance Operative Apprentice, you will provide building maintenance services and contribute towards the delivery of a safe and secure environment for people living on the property. You will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, whilst under supervision to ensure that all properties in the portfolio meet the required standards under the AASC contract. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job-specific skills such as ensuring there are no hazards on the property and checking all reports before working, complying with health and safety and adhering to site safety standards, purchasing from Serco suppliers and keeping documentation and removing all waste from properties and making sure it is disposed of properly. 

Entry requirements

To become a Property Maintenance Operative, you will need to have GCSE grades A*- C (9-4) in Maths or English or an acceptable equivalent. A Driver’s license is required

Seafarer (Deckrating) Level 2

Serco has delivered defence services in the UK since 1964. We provide a range of critical technical, airfield and airport support services across the UK for the armed services, original equipment manufacturers and civilian airport operators around the world.

Our Seafarer apprentices work with maritime services across the UK and abroad. You will work as part of a team to maintain the safety and security of other persons, equipment, cargo and environment whilst onboard a vessel. Our vessels provide a range of support, including dive support, military training, submarine rescues, target/test equipment deployment/recovery and passenger transfers. Your daily duties will mean using your effective communication skills and good teamwork to ensure that you work together with other members of the crew and all onboard. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job-specific skills including performing security duties, learning/performing watching keeping during day or night shifts at sea and performing maintenance of the vessel and equipment. 

 

Entry requirements

To become a Seafarer (Deck rating) Level 2 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths 2 (C) or above. You must be 17 years old or older, hold a valid UK passport and be capable of obtaining a ENG1 Unrestricted Medical Certificate including an eyesight exam. It is essential that you are willing to work out at sea for periods of time.
