Our programmes

Business Administrator Level 3

The Business Administrator apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to develop a set of highly transferable skills on which to build your career. Our Business Administrator apprentices are responsible for supporting and engaging with different parts of our organisation and interacting with internal or external customers.

Working independently and as part of a team, your role will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. You’ll be expected to carry out your responsibilities efficiently and with integrity, showing a positive attitude. You’ll need to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and have a proactive approach to developing your own skills. You’ll be expected to show initiative, manage priorities and your own time, and demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as the use of multiple IT packages and systems, training in how to produce accurate records and documents such as emails, letters, files, payments, reports and proposals, document and record production, operational excellence and project management skills.

Entry requirements

To become a Business Administrator Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 4 (or C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Customer Service Practitioner Level 2

This Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship is a great opportunity to develop your skills as a customer service professional.

Our Customer Service apprentices deliver high quality products and services to our customers. You’ll also find solutions for customers when things haven’t gone according to plan. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and behaviours across a range of channels including face-to-face, telephone, email, text and post. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as how to relate to customers, time management, listening skills, how to keep calm under pressure and how to diffuse difficult conversations. You’ll also get to know our systems inside out, enabling you to use your initiative to solve queries and keep our customers happy.

Completion of this apprenticeship will make you eligible to join the Institute of Customer Service as an Individual member at Professional Level.

Entry requirements

To become a Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 2 (or E). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Infrastructure Technician Level 3

As an Infrastructure Technician apprentice on the IT Service Desk, you will set people up on systems and provide support when they need it, maintaining the organisation’s productivity by solving issues as they arise. You will provide support to our internal customers, helping them to use our technologies as productively as possible. You will use a range of tools to problem-solve and trouble-shoot non-routine problems.

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as logical and creative thinking skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, a thorough and organised approach, communicating effectively in a variety of situations and maintaining a productive, professional and secure working environment.

Entry requirements

To become an Infrastructure Technician Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 4 (or C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Aeronautical Engineer – Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician Level 3

Serco has delivered defence services in the UK since 1964. Every year we strip, repair, rebuild and test fixed wing and helicopter engines for the UK military.

As an Aeronautical Engineer, you’ll work on maintaining the airworthiness of military aircraft including Merlin helicopters and Chinook engines. The role involves highly skilled, complex and specialist work, maintaining aircraft systems according to approved work instructions and accurately completing aircraft documentation. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as mathematical calculations applied in an aircraft maintenance, understanding the materials used in aircraft repair and the fundamentals of aircraft maintenance practices.

Entry requirements

To become an Aeronautical Engineer Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level Maths (grade B), English Language (grade C), one Science subject (grade C) and one additional subject (grade C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Marine Engineer – Maritime Electrical or Mechanical Fitter Level 3

Serco are proud to have been supporting the Royal Navy since 1996, providing critical support to assets, infrastructure and operations. Our team operates over 100 vessels from seven sites around the UK.

As a Marine Engineer, you’ll focus on either an Electrical or Mechanical pathway. Using engineering drawings and data you will install, test, diagnose faults, maintain, overhaul and remove electrical systems or mechanical equipment on maritime vessels.

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as how to do the specific mathematical calculation used in a maritime environment and understand maritime engineering technology applied in the operation and maintenance of maritime vessels. You’ll be expected to learn the practical and theoretical requirements of maritime equipment and systems used on board vessels and how to use maritime tools and equipment.

Entry requirements

To become a Marine Engineer Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level Maths (grade B), English Language (grade C), one Science subject (grade C) and one additional subject (grade C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Aviation Ground Operative Level 2

Serco has delivered defence services in the UK since 1964. We provide a range of critical technical, airfield and airport support services across the UK for the armed services, original equipment manufacturers and civilian airport operators around the world.

Our Aviation Ground Operative apprentices work in a number of RAF and military bases across the UK. You will work as part of a team to ensure the safe and efficient arrival, turnaround and departure of aircraft. Your daily duties will mean using your effective communication skills and good teamwork to ensure that you work together with passenger services, air traffic control and those moving, loading, unloading and servicing aircraft to maintain the smooth, safe and secure running of the airfield. 

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as ensuring that the full array of aircraft services are completed correctly, including; marshalling, chocks, ground power, correct operation of lower hold doors, loading and unloading passenger baggage and cargo in accordance with aircraft manufacturer and current carrier/organisational regulations. 

Entry requirements

To become an Aviation Ground Operative Level 2 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 2 (or E). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.

Team Leader / Supervisor Level 3

The Team Leader / Supervisor apprenticeship is designed to support people to take the first step into people management. 
A team leader or supervisor manages a team to deliver operational or project outcomes. You will be expected to provide direction, instructions and guidance to your team.

Your role will involve supporting and developing team members, managing their workloads and building relationships within the organisation. You will also be responsible for managing projects, delivering operational plans and demonstrating your ability to resolve problems.

Training and support

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you’ll gain valuable working experience. You’ll also be taught job specific skills such as managing individuals and teams, adapting your leadership style, developing your self-awareness, workflow management and financial awareness, dealing with disciplinaries and grievances, and meeting operational requirements. 

Entry requirements

To become a Team Leader / Supervisor Level 3 apprentice, you need to have achieved GCSE level English Language and Maths grade 4 (or C). Equivalent qualifications are accepted.
