HMP Ashfield

At HMP Ashfield, our diverse team in Psychological Services is dedicated to the rehabilitation and support of over 400 prisoners. Located in the village of Pucklechurch on the north-east side of Bristol, this is a Category C adult male training prison, for people convicted of sexual offences.

Our main aim is to support the reduction of reoffending upon release, and we do this through a variety of therapeutic approaches, interventions, education, and skills-based courses.

A brand-new Therapeutic Community

The prison is also introducing a new 38-bed Therapeutic Community – the only TC in a prison solely dedicated to treatment intervention with people convicted of sexual offences. The TC uses the peer community to facilitate social and psychological change, providing 24/7 therapy, and supporting people in prison with their rehabilitation.

This will provide structured therapy sessions, counselling, skill-building activities and an emphasis on personal responsibility and accountability.

A New Unit

To further create a supportive and rehabilitative atmosphere based on compassion-focused principles, we’ll also be introducing a new psychologically-led unit working to enabling environment priniciples. This will support and encourage the engagement of people with the most complex needs, who struggle to make progress through their sentence due to specific barriers.

• The Healthy Sex Programme (HSP)
