At Serco we provide waste, street cleansing, and recycling collection services to 20 separate local authority customers, collecting rubbish from 2.5 million people, which includes over 285 million tonnes of recyclable waste every year. Our teams ensure that the streets, homes, and businesses of local communities are kept clean, safe and tidy.
We know that working in environmental services is not always the most glamorous of jobs, but it does offer the opportunity to be part of diverse, friendly and fun crews and more importantly, find work that works for you.
What you’ll be doing
As an SWS temp you’ll take up one of these roles:
Grounds Maintenance
You will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of landscaping tasks to help keep the parks and grounds up to standard. This will involve using a range of equipment and vehicles to cut grass and perform minor maintenance tasks.
Collections Operative
You will be responsible for refuse and recycling collections daily, this will involve deploying safe lifting and handling techniques as well as maintaining excellent customer relations particularly members of the public.
Collection Driver / Loader
Using your LGV Cat C/HGV Class 2 experience you and your team of refuse loaders will set off on your pre-planned route, collecting waste and recycling from residential homes and commercial properties, which will include pitching in with the refuse loaders when needed.
Street Cleaning Operative
As a driver you will be required to drive to different locations, conducting daily inspections, using the street cleansing carts as and when required. Alternatively as a non driver you will support with litter picking, removing graffiti, emptying litter and dog waste bins.
