NorthLink Ferries hosts exclusive concert in St Magnus Cathedral with Orkney’s FARA
Published: 15 Jul 2024
This summer, NorthLink Ferries customers are in with a chance of securing free tickets for an intimate concert in the striking St Magnus Cathedral with Orkney’s own fiddle-led folk band, FARA.
As part of Serco NorthLink Ferries campaign encouraging adventure seekers to discover the hidden gems Shetland and Orkney have to offer, the ferry operator is seeking to spread awareness of the wonderful musical talent found in the islands.
Exclusive to NorthLink Ferries customers, complimentary tickets are up for grabs for the gig which takes place on Friday 9th August 2024. To secure tickets, customers will require a previous or future NorthLink Ferries booking number or a NorthLink ID. Tickets are available now at https://www.northlinkferries.co.uk/fara/
Speaking of the concert, customer service director, Billy Robb, said: “As a thank you to our customers, these tickets offer an exclusive chance to experience FARA’s spell-binding vocals, energetic songs, and intricately woven fiddle harmonies. Set within the red sandstone walls of St Magnus Cathedral, the concert is sure to be very special indeed.”
FARA is comprised of Orcadians Jeana Leslie, Kristan Harvey and Catriona Price along with Highland pianist Rory Matheson. FARA’s Jeana Leslie said: “We didn’t think that we would be back performing in Orkney this year, so this gig is a special bonus for us – we always love to come home! It will be the band’s first time performing in Orkney’s iconic St Magnus Cathedral and we are really looking forward to it. NorthLink provides an invaluable lifeline to the people of Orkney and Shetland and is the gateway to the North for so many tourists who come to our islands. It is great to see them giving back to the community with this musical event. We are very honoured to have been asked to perform for this concert in the St Magnus Cathedral and we hope it will be a great night of music and songs for locals and visitors alike.”
In addition to the release of FARA tickets, NorthLink Ferries also sponsored concerts in North Roe and in Baltasound during the Shetland Folk Festival earlier this year.
NorthLink is also encouraging visitors to further immerse themselves in Orkney and Shetland’s rich culture by heading off the beaten track. A series of videos detailing lesser-known places to visit have recently been launched across the company's social media channels and website.
