Amelia Mugridge has been recognised as a British LGBT Awards Future Leader for her tireless advocacy for the LGBT+ community in every part of her life.
“My take on inclusion is not revolutionary. Treat others as you want to be treated and do small, regular actions to make people feel they belong. I practice visible inclusion! I always tell people that I’m a safe space and they can talk to me. My mantra is: if you want to know more or are worried you’ll stick your foot in it, come and have a chat and we’ll dig our way out together.”
Employed by Serco since 2020, Amelia’s day-job is a Commercial Contracts Analyst in our Defence team. Her dedication to the smallest details, and determination to get to the root of a problem and find the best way forward are skills that make her adept at having difficult conversations, whether that be about the legal conditions of a contract KPI or challenging someone over the use of sexist language or incorrect pronouns.
Having completed law and politics-based degrees, Amelia enjoys how her legal career in Commercial Contracts beginning of a deal, through to defining the exit obligations as we prepare to end a contract arrangement.
Being able to bring your true, authentic self to work without fear of judgement is a key tenet of Amelia’s advocacy. With support from the wider Serco team, Amelia is proud to be Co-Chair for in@serco, our employee network supporting LGBT+ staff to feel safe and supported at work.
Amelia’s style may be simple, but it’s certainly effective. While Serco achieved Gold Inclusive Employer status in 2023, sometimes the world of Defence can take a moment to catch-up. That’s when it takes someone like Amelia to change the status quo.
Also nominated in 2023 in the Rainbow Honours as Corporate LGBTQIA Champion of the Year, Amelia has long been passionate about all voices being heard.
In this video, Amelia talks about why inclusion is important to her.
We’re #SercoAndProud of Amelia’s achievements and look forward to supporting her to impact a better future.
