Defence Academy of the UK

We make training happen at the Defence Academy, smoothly and sustainably. As proud partners with the Ministry of Defence, Serco has provided first class services, technology and processes which have enabled the MoD to deliver world class training at the UK Defence Academy since 2000.

Our trusted team successfully carries out 28,000 planned preventative maintenance tasks and 9,000 reactive tasks each year to keep Defence Academy buildings operating efficiently. Our bespoke IT solutions and state of the art audio visual services enable training on site or online to suit course needs, with specialist higher education and training provided for 100,000 visitors annually.

We achieve 99.99% IT network availability onsite, manage 4,000 devices and handle approximately 70,000 calls on our service desk each year – supporting our customer to deliver specialised military training.

In addition we project manage the design and build of specialist buildings, including the Defence Cyber Academy, helping neurodiverse students learn in a comfortable setting.  
 

 

International Fire Training Centre (IFTC) 

We train firefighters to be safe and effective when the stakes are high. Our highly skilled team provides world renowned aviation and industrial fire training services at our IFTC at Teeside International Airport and regional Middle East satellite. With a UK Centre of Excellence and international advisory services we deliver unique integrated fire resilience training within highly regulated customer environments.
Our highly experienced tutors are ICAO, OPITO, JOIFF and MCA accredited, selected for their extensive knowledge of the fire sector and their ability to create fit for purpose courses for our customers.

Our nine state of the art burn rig appliances enable us to deliver a thorough and realistic firefighting experience in industrial and aviation settings, tailored to suit customer needs, including a virtual reality suite for training in a safe and controlled environment.

Over 5,000 delegates from over 20 countries worldwide each year attend training ranging from basic fire awareness to specialised incident command for airports, industrial and offshore sectors.

Emergency Planning College (EPC) 

We’re experts in resilience. Working in close partnership with the Cabinet Office since 2010, Serco is the trusted provider of the EPC, the centre of resilience learning and development for the UK. We work with central and local governments, responder organisations, emergency services, and businesses across the world to build, strengthen and rehearse their emergency and crisis management capabilities.  
In person training course
With a unique network of leading experts with in-depth knowledge and experience across sectors, the EPC is the largest and only government endorsed provider of emergency planning training, as well as a specialist provider in crisis management, business continuity, and crowd and event safety, across its advisory, training and exercising services. 

We train and exercise over 8,000 people every year, both online and in person at the purpose built training campus situated at the historic 240-acre Hawkhills estate. We also deliver customised in person learning offsite at customers’ chosen locations, as well as online through our unique virtual classroom and e-learning packages. 

Our flagship Lessons Digest thought leadership programme provides evidence based insight to support learning from real life exercises and emergencies. Widely regarded as best practice, it reaches over 80,000 individuals from the global resilience community.
