Ballistic Missile Early Warning Support Services
Serco and its predecessor companies have been providing critical engineering maintenance and space track processing support to the RAF at the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) at RAF Fylingdales since 1963. Since 1995 Serco has delivered the operation and maintenance to the Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR).
The contract ensures the continued operation of a strategically vital space sensor, providing early warning ballistic missile data and space situational surveillance data to the UK MoD and US DoD. Engineering support at RAF Fylingdales has included systems’ studies to improve the radar’s performance and extend its capabilities, as well as the design and maintenance of mission and support software.
Core services we provide:
- 1st, 2nd & 3rd line radar maintenance, software and systems support, plus full facility maintenance for the radar infrastructure.
- 24/7/365 technical and maintenance support to the RAF at the site
- A Whole Force By Design approach – Serco is fully embedded within the RAF’s operational teams to provide technical assistance.
- Provision of space training for space track analysts
