New Directors appointed for Thameside, Dovegate and Doncaster

On 6 April 2020, two ex-prison governors from the public estate joined Serco as Contract Directors of HMPs Thameside and Dovegate.

David Bamford, who was formerly Governor of HMP Brixton is the new director at HMP Thameside. David brings a vast wealth of experience, having previously been a governor at HMPs Blundeston, Moorland and Nottingham as well previously working for the National Offender Management Service (NOMS).

Clare Pearson is the new Director of HMP Dovegate. Clare has been previously governor to an impressive and diverse portfolio of prisons including high-security men’s prison, HMP Belmarsh, closed women's prison and young offenders institute, HMP Foston Hall, mixed category men’s prison, HMP Hewell and high-security men’s prison, HMP Long Lartin.

HMP Dovegate’s former Director, John Hewitson started his new position as Director of HMP Doncaster on 16 March, when he took over from Jeremy Spencer, who retired at the end of March. Mr Hewitson won a lot of praise after a positive HMIP report was recently published on 13 February this year.
