Serco prisons submit entries for the 2021 Koestler Arts Awards
June 1, 2021 saw the closing date for submissions for this year’s Koestler Arts Awards.
The Koestler Awards are an annual prison arts award in the UK and have been running since 1962. Each year, prisoners from around the UK submit works of art from a variety of artforms such as visual art, craft and design, writing, performance and audio and even film and animation into 52 different award categories, including this year’s new themed Category, Together.
All six of the prisons that Serco manages across the UK have submitted their entries for the arts awards with HMP Dovegate recently tweeting a picture of their arts tutors loading a car full of art submissions to be taken to Koestler Arts.
Serco’s UK prisons celebrated taking home several Koestler awards in October last year, including HMP Dovegate, where there is a rich history of winning over one-hundred Koestler Awards, took home an impressive 49 awards along with HMP Ashfield with 14 awards, HMP Thameside with 13 awards, HMP Lowdham Grange with 6, HMP Kilmarnock with 7 and HMP Doncaster with 4.
The 2021 exhibition that will showcase the Koestler Awards will be back in its usual gallery in the autumn at Southbank Centre in London. The specific date for the announcement of the award is yet to be announced.
