Welcome to the Work Programme

The UK governments initiative helping you find a job that's right for you

About the Work Programme

Serco has been carefully selected by the government to deliver the Work Programme in the West Midlands and in South Yorkshire on behalf of Job Centre Plus.

We'll help you find all the essential information you need to get started, from finding your provider to Tools and Guidance or how to find the right job for you and support you with your Job Search.

Read our Customer Charter which explains what you can expect.

What will happen to me on the Work Programme?

To make sure that you get the right support when you need it, you will be given a Personal Adviser who will help you get the most out of the programme.

Action plan

Your Personal Adviser will explain what will happen on the programme and find out about your current situation, anything that has been stopping you from getting work and what kind of employment you are looking for. Your adviser will use this information to create a personal ‘action plan’ which you will keep and update throughout your time on the programme.

Job search

Your Personal Adviser will support you to make sure that you have the tools, confidence and skills to apply for suitable jobs. You will work together on job searches – aiming to find the right kind of work for you as quickly as possible.

Better off in work calculation

Your Personal Adviser will explain the benefits you will receive when you start work. This will give you a guide as to how much better off financially you'll be in work.

Additional tools and support

You will have access to a range of job search resources, such as industry publications and the Internet, and will be equipped to use the skills that you have developed. You may also wish to access group workshops or to organise a work placement to assist you to move into employment.

If you have concerns which could have an impact on finding the right work for you, you will receive relevant support and advice such as physical or mental health support, self-employment advice, accommodation, addiction and rehabilitation support, ex-offender support, debt/money advice.

We hope that everyone will find a job before the end of the programme. If you do not, you will be supported to return to Jobcentre Plus for assistance with your ongoing job search.

If you feel we are not meeting our commitments to you, please contact your provider in the first instance either in writing, by phone or in person. Alternatively, you can ask your provider for the details of your local Serco Performance Manager or complete the form below.
